McKinney-Vento Homeless Education

Homelessness exists in our community and this district will follow the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.  Students experiencing homelessness have certain rights under federal law and must be proactively identified by school staff to immediately eliminate barriers to enrollment. Because of the stigma related to the word "homeless" we will instead use the term "children and youth in transition."

This office can assist children and youth in transition with school supplies, school uniforms, winter coats and personal hygiene items, as well as providing connections to community service providers.  Additionally, school staff who want to learn more about the McKinney-Vento program can contact this office for a one-to-one briefing about our responsibilities as school staff.

See the files below for detailed and specific information about the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.
